Bugatti EB 16/4 Veyron Study

Bugatti EB 16/4 Veyron Study
At the end of 2003 the first 21st-century Bugatti, a blend of traditional craftsmanship and ultra-modern industrial production, will leave the factory - the Bugatti EB 16·4 Veyron, a production car of exceptionally unusual design that will be based on the design study of the same name displayed by BUGATTI Automobiles S.A.S. at the 72nd Geneva Motor Show in 2002.

At the time of writing, in the spring of 2002, the 736 kW (1001 bhp) Bugatti EB 16·4 Veyron, although exhibited as a design study, has already reached a degree of driveline and body development that is close to series production status. The first theoretical performance figures are also available: the new 16-cylinder sports car should reach a top speed of 406 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 300 km/h in under 14 seconds.

The study exhibited at the 2002 Geneva Motor Show incorporates a large number of technological highlights. As on Formula 1 and Le Mans racing cars, the load-bearing chassis of the EB 16·4 is reinforced with carbon fibre for maximum strength and rigidity as well as minimum weight. This principle also ensures optimum passive safety for the car's occupants. The outer skin of the body is of mixed aluminium and carbon-fibre construction. The W16 turbocharged engine, which has dry sump lubrication and four continuously variable camshafts, surpasses the power output of even the latest Formula 1 engines. Power is transmitted to the wheels through a new type of sequential-shift seven-speed gearbox with twin clutches.........

When J.Lo Gyrates With Another Man

When J.Lo Gyrates With Another Man
A husband would surely be green with envy, when he sees his wife getting raunchy with another man, even if it's solely for the cameras.

And Marc Anthony can certainly not be blamed for leaving after two minutes of singer/actress wife Jennifer Lopez's video shoot with raunchy rapper LL Cool J.

As per the sexy hip-hop hunk, Anthony apparently couldn't tolerate the shoot of the racy sequence, and hence did a runner right after he started to get a groove on with his missus for the video "Control Myself".

"We had a lot of chemistry going on. So when Jen's husband came on set - he was only there for a minute before he left again," The Mirror quoted the 38-year-old stud, as saying.

October "it" Girl, Kate Moss

October
I never used to care much for Kate Moss. Ok, maybe I was a bit fascinated by what Johnny Depp saw in her during their tumultuous relationship, but mostly I was very confused with the attention given to the waif of all waifs.

Ever since Kate's life exploded in Sept 2005, when she was caught "powdering her nose" with an illegal substance, there seems to be more depth to her. She was dumped by H&M and other major contracts, but a year later the waifish style icon's comeback has seen her profile reach new heights.

Her annual income is believed to have risen to about $45 mill USD working with Rimmel, Agent Provocateur, Virgin Mobile, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Roberto Cavalli, Stella McCartney, Bulgari, Chanel, Nikon, Versace, Calvin Klein Jeans and Burberry. Now she's set to start designing a new collection for UK's TopShop (read more Couture in the City).

Here's a fashionista that doesn't need a stylist (ala Rachel Zoe) to set her look. Moss takes risks with her style, career and life and that is why she is this month's "it" girl.

Story Cont'd......

And if that isn't enough - she counts F. Scott Fitzgerald among her favorite writers eventhough she also once admitted that her bedside reading was The Tao of Pooh Bear. Come on! that has to speak to this "it girl" and a dynamic personality behind the couture frocks.........

Looking Good on Halloween!

Looking Good on Halloween!
Halloween is right around the corner, so let's talk about how to look good and remain fashionable when choosing your Halloween costume.

Location

Think about where you're going to be and what you're going to be doing on Halloween, before you pick a costume. Are you going to Las Vegas for a bit of club hopping and running around The Strip? Then for god sakes, wear comfortable shoes!! Giving up and carrying your incredibly sexy shoes by 8pm, is not incredibly sexy. So, choose your footwear wisely. Stiletto heels over 4" will be your worst enemy if your night involves lots of walking or dancing.

A better choice (that is still very sexy) would be platform heels with a padded footbed or even better, platform boots with a thicker heel. If you're going to a tame Halloween house party, then by all means, wear the wildest, highest, most uncomfortable shoes you can find (sort of like these monstrosities).

Also think about where your going to be spending Halloween before picking out your costume. If your going to be somewhere crowded, you are not going to want to be wearing a long, floor sweeping costume (people stepping on it will get old very quickly) and whacking people in the face with a winged costume will also wear on your (and other peoples) nerves.........

Northern Bogs Andt Global Warming

Methane gas released by peat bogs in the northern-most third of the globe probably helped fuel the last major round of global warming, which drew the ice age to a close between 11,000 and 12,000 years ago, UCLA and Russian Academy of Sciences researchers have concluded.

But the new information in no way lets human sources of greenhouse gases off the hook for the present round of global warming, warn the team of scientists whose findings are reported in the Oct. 13 issue of Science.

"If anything, our findings show just how sensitive the planet's environment is to change and just how complex the results of these changes may be," said Glen M. MacDonald, the lead author of the study and a UCLA climate change scholar.

As the incipient bogs were strong producers of methane, the findings help solve a long-standing mystery about the source of a massive infusion of atmospheric methane that helped raise the Earth's surface temperature following the ice age.

"Researchers have long known that the northern bogs produce methane, but until now they were generally dismissed as the source of this change at the close of the last ice age because they were thought to have formed too slowly and too late to be a factor," said Laurence C. Smith, a UCLA professor of geography and study coauthor. "The initial development of the huge complex of northern bogs that now cover 1.54 million square miles occurred earlier than previously thought." .........

Making Safer Pesticides

Making Safer Pesticides
Each year millions of dollars in crops are lost to two insects notorious for devastating farms: the greenbug (Schizaphis graminum) and the English grain aphid (Sitobion avenae). Eventhough these tiny green insects are 1/16th of an inch long, they are heavyweights in the farm industry. In 2005, the Department of Agriculture reported that $100 million in crops were lost in six states to these pests.

In a new study in the recent issue of Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters, a Mayo Clinic researcher has published work that opens the door to the possibility of creating safer pesticides to control the greenbug and English grain aphid in crop farms. The key, as per the study's author, Yuan-Ping Pang, Ph.D., director of Mayo Clinic's Computer-Aided Molecular Design Laboratory, was in identifying an insect-specific enzyme that could be used as a direct target for a new insecticide that would not affect humans and animals. The research was done with the support of a powerful terascale supercomputer Dr. Pang designed to develop a three-dimensional model of an enzyme taken from the two insects. (Terascale refers to a computer so powerful it can perform one trillion operations per second.).

"We now have a blueprint that will enable the development of a new generation of pesticides that will not be toxic to humans. Ultimately, the idea would be that we would be able to eat apples without washing them -- even though it may be covered with pesticides," says Dr. Pang.........

Microsoft Zune
Now here's something that will give the Apple iPods a run for their money. and they may actually have a chance in hell of succeeding.

Microsoft has just unveiled the Zune brand media player. Microsoft claims that the Zune experience centers around connection - connection to your library, connection to friends, connection to community and connection to other devices.

With a suggested retail price of approximately $249.99, Zune will be available this holiday season in the United States in black, brown or white. Zune comes in a 30GB digital media player that features wireless technology, a built-in FM tuner and a 3-inch screen that allows users to play music, pictures and video.

Just by coming in close proximity to your Zune wearing friends, you will be able to wirelessly share full-length sample tracks of select songs, homemade recordings, playlists or pictures with one another. They can listen to them 3 times, or 3 days, whichever comes first. If they wish, they can flag the songs right on your device and easily purchase it from the Zune Marketplace. Initially though, Microsoft will only sell music, but no video.

As per CNN.Com Technology page, Microsoft announced that it will sell a subscription pass for $14.99 a month, allowing the user to listen to any songs in the Zune Martketplace. However, after the pass expires, the user will not be able to access those songs.........

In Wake Of Horse Slaughter Bill

In Wake Of Horse Slaughter Bill
The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act, making its way from the U.S. House to the Senate, could leave thousands of horses with no final resting ground.

Composting may be an environmentally friendly option that fits in the "circle of life" frame of mind and may be less emotional, two area researchers said.

On Sept. 7 the House approved the Act, which bans the slaughter of horses for human consumption by a vote of 263-146. The Senate has yet to schedule the issue for consideration.

Approximately 90,000 horses, or 1 percent of the U.S. horse population, is slaughtered annually, said Dr. Lance Baker, West Texas A&M University associate professor of animal science.

"If they don't go to slaughter, they will have to go somewhere else," Baker said.

The options for dealing with a carcass are burial, rendering, landfill disposal, incineration, composting or bio-digesting, he said. Many of these are costly, and a horse owner often has to pay to put the horse down and for its disposal, instead of getting money for the animal.

Large-carcass composting is a growing and accepted practice among feedyards and dairies, said Dr. Brent Auvermann, a Texas Agricultural Experiment Station agricultural engineer who has researched the process for about five years.........
