Romantic Films Not Just For Women
"Chick flicks" aren't just for women. As per research by Richard Harris, professor of psychology at Kansas State University, guys like romantic movies, too.
Harris said his survey results are surprising and go against common stereotypes.
"Everyone thinks that women like romantic movies and that they drag guys along to them," he said. "What was significant was that the guys also liked the movies, and that the choice to view a romantic movie was commonly made together as a couple, not just by the girl".
Using a 7-point scale, Harris asked men and women to rate how much they liked a romantic movie they had just watched. He also asked them to rate how much they believed their date enjoyed the movie and how much they think men and women in general like romantic movies.
Eventhough in the study both men and women generalized that men as a group wouldn't like a romantic movie, when men rated the romantic flick they had just seen, they gave it a 4.8 on Harris' scale. When women were asked to rate how much their dates liked the movie, they gave the same 4.8 rating.
"We observed that women really do enjoy romantic movies," Harris said. "They rated how much they liked the movie at about 6 on the 7-point scale. However, we also observed that men liked the movies as well. They rated how much they liked the movie at about 4.8, which is higher than most people would have guessed".........

Hilton Didn't Defend Britney on MySpace
Someone played a trick upon party girl Paris Hilton by writing a post on Hilton's name, defending best pal Britney Spear's 'partying ethics'.
But Hilton's rep Elliot Mintz dismissed the reports Friday insisting that Paris did not wrote the post and doesn't have a page on MySpace website.
Mintz said that whoever wrote the entry this week on Hilton's page on the popular social networking site MySpace.com "crafted a very nice piece and the sentiments that were expressed were extremely articulate".
He further stated,.
Did she write that piece? No, she did not. I have no idea who did. There are dozens and dozens of people that use the Web, that write things and post pictures and identify themselves as Paris. There are at least 80 of them. The Web is a bit like the Wild West - somewhat uncontrollable.
Hotel heiress Hilton often enjoys Britney Spears pantiless company, Brit has been photographed without panties in the town with Hilton.
I must say that whosoever wrote the post, wrote with full emotions. If you read the post it seems that someone has penned down Hilton's real emotions for her new best buddy Spears.

Gibson's Latest Film Apocalypto
After producing and directing the religious blockbuster of all time, "The Passion of the Christ", Mel Gibson is once again praised for "blood-and-guts actions", "breathtaking vistas", and "bruising beauty" in his ancient Mayan epic Apocalypto.
"Despite the subject's inherent spectacle, conflict and societal interest, Central America's pre-Columbian history has scarcely been touched by filmmakers," writes Variety critic Todd McCarthy, who also called the film "remarkable."
The Hollywood Reporter described it as "a first-rate epic" while questioning its "over-the-top violence".
Maxim magazine's Pete Hammond said he was "blown away by the filmmaking".
The title "Apocalypto" which in Greek means "an unveiling and a new beginning," has been filmed entirely in the Mayan language.
Apocalypto features a cast of unknown actors from Mexico City, the Yucatán and it views the decline of Mexico's native civilization.
Rudy Youngblood played the role of the hero Jaguar Paw, a native American whose village is attacked by Mayan warriors. They burn huts, rape women and take the men to be human sacrifices in a Mayan city that is beset by drought and crop failure.
The film will be released on December 8. Earlier it was slated to release on August 4 but Touchstone Pictures has delayed the release date to December 8, 2006.........

Beatles mashups
George Martin, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr have produced an album of Beatles mashups. Yes, really. It's called Love, and if the sample remix of Strawberry Fields Forever is any indicator, it's amazing (even if the disc only mashes up one Beatles song with several others -- which makes it not as interesting as Revolved, The Beastles, or The Beachles -- most of which EMI has censored with legal threats).
George Martin, along with Paul and Ringo, produced this reinvention of the Beatles' music by going back to the original session tapes and creating new, and in a number of cases brilliant, versions of the already familiar catalog. It's NOT a rehash of what you've already got in your collection. In a lot of cases, it's like hearing this music for the first time all over again. 26 tracks, almost 80 minutes of music, reinvented and reimagined.........

Outdoor XM Antenna
The main problem with XM radio is that the reception is really poor at some places. The problem becomes more weird when you have an XM tuner installed in the basement of your house.
Some countries have terrestrial repeaters to combat some of the problems but still the reception is not that great. The problems range from no audio to a complete drop out of the signal.
To solve the problem the best idea is to go for an outdoor XM Antenna. A Terk XM6 Outdoor Antenna works great.
The installation is not at all tricky and you will easily have it done in some hours. All the Installation requires is a RG-6 cable between the tuner and the roof.
The kit has a Female Connector to XM antenna connector, which you have to attach to one end of the RG-6 cable and the second end to the Antenna itself.
That's all you are done and now there should be full signal strength on your tuner.........

Mystery About Stradivarius Violins Solved
Copy of an Antonius Stradivarius instrument
Made in Germany
Answering a question that has lingered for centuries, a team of scientists has proved that chemicals used to treat the wood used in Stradivarius and Guarneri violins are the reasons for the distinct sound produced by the world-famous instruments.
The conclusions, published in the current issue of Nature magazine, have confirmed 30 years of work into the subject by Joseph Nagyvary, professor emeritus of biochemistry at Texas A&M University, who was the first to theorize that chemicals not necessarily the wood created the unique sound of the two violins. Nagyvary teamed with collaborators Joseph DiVerdi of Colorado State University and Noel Owen of Brigham Young University on the project.
This research proves unquestionably that the wood of the great masters was subjected to an aggressive chemical treatment and the chemicals most likely some sort of oxidizing agents had a crucial role in creating the great sound of the Stradivarius and the Guarneri, Nagyvary says.
Like many discoveries, this one could have been accidental. Perhaps the violin makers were not even aware of the acoustical effects of the chemicals. Both Stradivari and Guarneri wanted to treat their violins to prevent worms from eating away the wood. They used some chemical agents to protect the wood from worm infestations of the time, and the unintended consequence from these chemicals was a sound like none other, he adds.........
