Winning Items In A Claw Machine

Winning Items In A Claw Machine
Imagine This; You are walking out of a Wal-Mart SuperCenter and you see a claw machine. Eventhough you have 2 dollars of spare cash in your pocket, you are not the greatest of "claw machiners" in the Wild West. You decide to have some fun and a little laugh so you walk toward the claw machine. You glance around the inside the machine to look for any tresures that may catch your eye for a friend, younger family member, or girl/boy friend.

You see a number of items here and there and finally decide on several of them. You dig thru your pockets and find the two 1 dollar bills. You insert them into the dollar slot and then proceed to gripping the joystick of the game. You also notice the timer on the game has been disabled. So you have all the time in the world. You carefully get the hang of the controls and begin to approach your 1st item with the stainless steel 4 pronged claw.........

Another look back at a Future World favorite

Another look back at a Future World favorite
got a call from Brian Ramsey of Mouse Surplus the other day. Who insisted that -- the very next time that I was down at Walt Disney World -- that I had to come by his new 1500 Tradeport Drive location and check out MS's new super-sized set-up.

And that was the plan, anyway. That -- as soon as I arrived at Orlando International Airport -- I'd first pick up my rental car and then make the five minute drive over to Mouse Surplus' new home. So that I could finally see this enormous warehouse that Brian keeps talking about.

But -- as soon as I walked in the door -- Mr. Ramsey had something really special to show me. It was a box full of film strips & old acetates that he had harvested from of Epcot's "Horizons" as that old Future World pavilion was being torn down to make way for "Mission: Space".

And as I held these thin pieces of plastic up to the light, some very familiar images from this long-gone Epcot icon once again appeared. How a number of of you recall.

this image from Jules Verne's "From the Earth to the Moon"? Which used to be projected along the side of the ride track inside of this Future World attraction?.........

Anti-itunes Drm Demonstrations

Anti-itunes Drm Demonstrations
Tomorrow, activists in seven cities across the US will picket Apple Stores, handing out information about the dangers of the DRM hidden in Apple's iTunes. iTunes DRM may seem pretty innocuous at first, but every time you invest in an iTunes Store song, you make it more expensive to switch to an Apple competitor's product at any time in the future. You didn't have to abandon your CDs to switch to MP3s (in fact, the more CDs you owned, the better your MP3 experience was, since you could rip those CDs to seed your MP3 collection), but if you want to go from Apple's iTunes to a competing device, ever, you have to be prepared to abandon your whole investment.

Add to that Apple's willingness to remove features from iTunes Store songs in the name of "updating," the absence of any way to give away, sell or loan your iTunes Store songs, and Apple's use of blacklists and legal threats to prevent people from adding functionality to the iPod and iTunes and buying an iTunes song starts to seem like a worse and worse deal (particularly since a number of artists report that they're seeing $0.07 or less from the sale of their music on the iTunes Store, so all your money is doing is lining the pockets of the same recording companies that are busily suing grannies, little kids and everyone else they can get their hands on).........
