Art Meets Donkeykong

Art Meets Donkeykong
This project is being exhibited at Fabbrica del Vapore during Salone.

xBlocks is a convergence between video games & sculpture - liberating play from the screen. It is a mixed reality installation inspired by traditional platform games of the late 1980s such as Super Mario Brothers or Pitfall. Using standard game controllers, two opposing players must help their characters navigate in and around a three dimensional maze. The real challenge comes, not from traditional game mechanics but rather from moving with your character as he sprints around corners and jumps between the installation's two play surfaces.........

Report From A Concert By A Serbian War-criminal

Report From A Concert By A Serbian War-criminal
Serbian writer Jasmina Tesanovic has just written a new piece called "Ideally Bad, or, The Banality of Her Badness." It tells the story of last night's concert by Serbian turbo-folk star Ceca. Ceca is the widow of the Milosevic-era war-criminal Raznatovic, and she goes about in public adorned in kewelry looted from the victims of war atrocities. She is a Serbian ultra-nationalist whose fame is both nauseating and ill-deserved, and Tesanovic's account of her concerts is scathing, brutal, and brilliant:.

Ideally Bad, or, The Banality of Her Badness.

Belgrade 17 June, 2005.

There is no excuse for going to Ceca's concert ("Ideally Bad") but I found one: I took a foreigner with me. I am trembling with shame while the local crowd of Ceca fans is flooding down to the confluence of the rivers of Danube and Sava. The concert is occurring next to the big, ugly monument that Mira Markovic built to celebrate the NATO raids. In the name of the Serbian people, this monument is inscribed. Well, NOT IN MY NAME.

I am glumly studying this host of young people merrily walking to see their evil pop-idol. They are SO young, our children from some years ago, the so called war children. These war kids are high school kids today. Do they remember anything of the wars, of the crimes and massive looting done in their names by their turbo folk icon? Do they know that Ceca robbed them of their future?.........

Apple's Itunes DRM Is Illegal

Apple's Itunes DRM Is Illegal
On 25th January, the Consumer Council lodged a complaint with the Consumer Ombudsman against iTunes Music Store Norge for breach of fundamental consumer rights.

Important victory.

The decision is in accordance with what the Consumer Council alleged in its complaint.

"We are very satisfied with the decision. There is a general tendency for consumers to meet grossly unreasonable agreements when they download files with cultural content. It is therefore positive that the Ombudsman gets a grip on this so that consumer interests are also protected when such material is downloaded," senior advisor Torgeir Waterhouse says.........

Rip Me Off No More

Rip Me Off No More
Second Update: Hugh has given us unlimited invites (thanks Hugh!) and a process for making this easy. I'll have this done asap.

Most likely you are painfully aware of how bizarre and seemingly inscrutable the pricing schemes are for airline travel. One day you might get a fare from SF to Boston for $400, the next it's $335, and the day after that it's $500. Why? Well, airlines have shitloads of data about historical pricing; they understand the supply and demand curves for every market, and they know when they need to sell more seats, boost margins, or compete to win business. They take advantage of all that data to push a price at you that suits them, and they're very, very good at leveraging algorithms to drive maximum revenue. It's frustrating as hell to use an online service like Expedia to try to beat the airlines at their own game - it simply isn't the right interface. Not to mention, Expedia's real customers are the travel companies - not you.

I got a chance to talk to Farecast founder Hugh Crean earlier last week, right before I penned this missive on not being able to do reviews. And in fact, this is not a review of Farecast, as much as I wish I had time for that. However, Hugh did spend a few minutes showing me around the site, and I found what it does really interesting, though for different reasons that perhaps others might.........

Streams Crossed At Shooting War Party

Streams Crossed At Shooting War Party
Last night's SHOOTING WAR PARTY was a brilliant success, in no small part due to the collective force of our own individual life-circles colliding into what makes any great party..... the crossing of streams. With friends/fam/loved ones from all our lives, combined with people who'd heard/seen/read this comic, we wound up with a really amazing crowd of wonderful people. To see a bit of it yourself (or yourself in a bit of it), check this Flickr photopool from the party.

We collectively want to send shout-outs in no particular order to some of the bright and beautiful stars that made last night such a fantastic joint:........
