Go Digital!
It seems like yesterday when I made my first attempt at finding an affordable digital multi-track recorder for my small home recording studio. Needing to replace my outdated 4 track analog recorder, I searched quite awhile for a reasonably priced recorder. Finally, I was able to find a digital recorder with most of the features I was looking for.
I was amazed at the capabilities of this machine; the clarity of sound it duplicated and the ease of operation were fantastic. My music mixes never sounded better.
Every month or so, some new technological invention, particularly in the digital realm, appears on the market. For today's young people, it is common place to have at their disposal anything they find appealing.
For some of us "older folks" to say the least, we are amazed, at times, even overwhelmed by all the "techno" gizmos on the market. I feel like a kid in a candy store when I research all the new devices out there, but I am a rare bird for my age and sex. I'm one of the very few women who pine over "electronics" instead of the latest fashion craze.
I constantly search the internet for information on all the new products. I want them all, but can only afford a few of these new devices. But, when narrowing down my choices, I commonly opt to keep up with all the music related products for enjoyable listening and more efficient and advanced ways to take my music and recording to the next level.........

Swap Your CDs
If you have a bunch of CDs, DVDs, or Video Games lying around collecting dust then you could probably just sell them - but have you ever considered trading them for other discs? SwitchDiscs allows you to communicate with other people who want to trade their stuff via a legal peer-to-peer trading network.
There is no cash required trading, instead "SwitchBucs" are used for a credit system. However, you can optionally purchase SwitchBucs as well. Overall it's an interesting system, but personally I would rather sell my media on eBay or Half.com, but I'm sure many people would prefer this method - especially becuase there are no fees involved. ........

3DTV A Reality In Millions Of Homes?
Looking to make 3DTV a reality in millions of homes around the world is the dizzying ambition of Hungarian high-growth company, Holografika.
Holografika supplies a proprietary 3D holographic display technology, called the HoloVizio- system, which provides multiple viewers with a natural 3D view without the need for special glasses or tracking equipment.
How does HoloVizio- work? Well, for starters, it is not the same as so-called auto-stereoscopic 3D systems, developed by companies such as Sharp, which involve showing a viewer two slightly different 2D images - one for the left eye and one for the right eye - and the viewer's brain fusing them to produce a single perceived 3D image.
Holografika's approach aims to mimic that of a viewer looking straight out of a conventional window - which is essentially a 2D object - but nevertheless perceiving the outside environment as a perfect 3D image. In this situation, the viewer perceives a 3D effect because the light patterns at each point on the window change subtly as per what is behind it and the angle it is being viewed.
Consequently, HoloVizio- involves a viewer looking at a 'digital window'. Tibor Balogh, Holografika's CEO and Founder, explains: "It uses a holographic screen. When beams inside the device strike the screen, each point of the holoscreen is able to emit light beams of a different colour and intensity in different directions".........

Adoption Of An Open iTV Standard
A recent study found that Europeans spend on average 3.5 hours a day passively watching television. Interactive digital television, or iTV, allows viewers to do much more with their TVs. However, for it to become widely deployed, there needs to be an open standard allowing full interoperability.
The MHP-KDB project set out to help equipment manufacturers, and software and content developers adopt the best such standard, says Klaus Merkel, who directed the IST-funded project.
The Digital Video Broadcasting - Multimedia Home Platform (DVB-MHP) is an open middleware system that enables TV sets to receive and run interactive, Java-based applications, broadcast via satellite, cable, and terrestrial mode. It is also adapted to internet protocol TV.
"MHP will allow full interoperability of various equipment and applications. It's adoption is the crucial factor to allow progress in deployment of interactive digital TV in Europe," says Merkel.
"We wanted to help simplify and accelerate the technical take-up of MHP by making expertise and solutions available to newcomers, as well as to more experienced users," says Merkel. The project, which ended in March, created an online database containing code samples for programmers, tools for developing and testing applications, and technical explanations.........

Dance Dance Revolution show coming to CBS
CBS recently announced plans for "Dance Revolution", a live-action show based on Konami's popular dancing game. Aimed at teens and tweens, the show will air alongside "CAKE", "Horseland", "Kooky Kitchen", "Sabrina: The Animated Series", "Trollz" and "Madeline" on Saturday mornings.
The premise of the show is for teams of dancers to compete for the best routine, with certain steps presented in DDR's classic flying magic arrow style to encourage viewer participation. Music will be provided by a live house band, who will also serve as the hosts. Being a big fan of DDR myself, it's exciting to watch the franchise cross over to an even broader medium (even though I'll likely never get up to watch it). Even better is CBS's commitment to encouraging young people to become more active and lead a healthy lifestyle. Watch for this to air mid-September.........

Eizo ColorEdge CE240W 24" LCD
This is the coolest monitor around for image quality. Sure you can get a bigger screen with the 30" Dell and Apple monitors, but can they give you a 1000:1 contrast ratio and a brightness of 450cd/m2 brightness? Ummm.no they can't.
The Dell and Apple 30" displays can only muster a 700:1 contrast ratio and the brightness of both 30" displays is 400 cd/m2. That makes the Eizo the highest contrast and brightest monitor you are likely to find. Gaming on the 24" Eizo is a dream. The 8ms response time is fast enough that ghosting and smearing is not an issue, while the exceptional brightness and contrast ensure that the picture is exactly as the guys intended your game to look when they programmed it. Native resolution is 1920 x 1200 and the Eizo also has a great 178 degree viewing angle. If size is not all you are after, the Eizo is simply an excellent monitor for work and play.........
